Faith and Begorra, not much happened today… I walked over to pick up the car — healthy exercise lately! Bought a few groceries then headed up to Georgetown for Mystery Readers. We had a guest speaker today who has written a historical novel that might be interesting. Then Mom helped me cut out the pattern for my next costume jacket. Aside from that, I picked up a few free plants along the way from various sources, and we will see what happens.

I expect to be gardening tomorrow…at least that is the plan. 🙂

Considering the amount of sleep Newell got last night, and the fact that I have some pressing errands, I may have to be a chauffeur today. If so, I will at least try to take some pictures to make it up to you. (Yikes…is my blog becoming more of a photographic study than a cleaning record?! Well, it is Spring… 😉 )

UPDATE ONE: Well, I did go and run that errand. HOPEFULLY, it is just an insurance delay, because I really can’t afford that $1000 bill… They told me not to worry about it for now. Made me feel much better.

Then I went and got some supplies for the planting my next-door neighbor and I want to do Sunday…but I had to leave them in the trunk when we dropped the car off at the nearest mechanic and walked home. So…not much likely to get done today. Exhausted.

If anything changes, I’ll let you know. There weren’t even really any things to photograph today. A lot of empty nests from last year…but I don’t know that those are worth sharing.

I did promise to see if I can find the baby peacocks I took a couple of years ago. If I find them, I’ll post those.

UPDATE TWO: Still looking for the baby peacocks, but I have gotten my Time Charts up to date, and I see that I actually did more work this week than last week, even if it did seem like I mostly goofed off, so there’s that…

Today I needed to get some things done that had nothing to do with cleaning. I have a Reader’s Group this weekend, for instance, and had yet to read a book for this month. Done now. I also wanted to take some photos for this month’s Flickr scavenger hunts, because it has been ages since I had time to compete, and I have been missing them.

So yeah…I goofed off again. But it seems to me that I am gradually progressing, even with the days off, so I don’t feel too bad about it.

Today I went to Mayfield Park for my periodic peacock fix. I hit a good time — the whole park was in bloom. Here are some of the resulting photos:

Thoroughly relaxing, restful, rejuvenating day. I highly recommend a trip to your nearest wildflower/garden spot when you need a breath of fresh air…or a break from cleaning. (See how I got that back around to on topic…? 😉 )

I was getting ready to start my day this morning when my next door neighbor called and asked if I wanted to go with her to The Natural Gardener. As I had been wanting to plant stuff this year, I jumped at the chance. I brought back little pots of dill, basil, catnip, lantana, and peppers. It was a delightful trip. Hoping some of my adventures in planting will take.

I also had my camera along. Look at some of the lovely things there!

I could wander out there for hours. But now I need to re-pot my herbs and get stuff done in the Library to make up for yesterday. I think that will be my top priority.

UPDATE ONE: Well, as is generally the case, I found three hours in one room didn’t work for me. More like an hour and a half…but I DID also get a short little piece written for a Reddit contest that I might expand into something gritty and post-apocalyptic later. So that’s something.

Here’s what I focused on:

And here is when I quit:

Plus, it took me about another 30 minutes to do this in the Front Hall:

As Newell thought the piece that was there was a little small and dark for the space. This is nice and airy. I would like to find some more of those connectors though…I swear I had some more around her somewhere…because I have a lot of the grid pieces left.

I do have some things that I think are designed to put shelves in the cubes, so I might do a couple of those too.

Anyway, between that two hours, the trip to the nursery (and I still need to go re-pot my plants) and the laundry in the dryer, I think that is a good day’s work.

DAILY WRAP UP: 1 1/2 Library + 1/2 Front Hall + 1 hour Outside = 3 hours.

BONUS UPDATE: Here are my re-potted plants:

(L to R)

Catnip (separated for safety of other plants), Basil, Dill, Bell Peppers, Yellow Peppers, Silver Mound Lantana, Red/Yellow Lantana

3/13/12

Newell sent me a link to a Bob the Squirrel comic last night with this comment: “Thank you for battling it.”

I think he’s made it all worth while.

Someone asked me for the first picture of the Studio when I started so the difference could really be seen.

From Day 12 (1/12/12):                          From 3/12/12:

That kinda shows the difference. 🙂

Two months exactly between those shots… I may take things a bit easy today. Crashing headache. But we’ll do what we can. Now that the Studio is going to be off the list for awhile, I must amend my “problem areas” dice rolls:

1 = Office

2 = Studio Office

3 = Library

4 = Junk Room

Despite a 2 out of 4 shot at it, today is NOT the Office, but the Library. I think I may go get those IKEA shelves Newell suggested…

UPDATE ONE: I’ve been a bad girl so far today. Newell has been after me to read Roger Zelazny’s Chronicles of Amber for several years now. I’ve read Nine Princes in Amber
a couple of times, and part of The Guns Of Avalon, but never finished all ten of them. I may have to get a copy of The Great Book of Amber: The Complete Amber Chronicles, 1-10 (Chronicles of Amber) to find them all, but we had copies of Chronicles Of Amber, Volume I – Nine Princes In Amber; Guns Of Avalon and The Chronicles Of Amber Volume II, so I have been making good on a promise today that transcends housecleaning (and is a bit of celebration for yesterday’s accomplishment.

I have finished Nine Princes in Amber and may well finish The Guns of Avalon tonight. Then I can take a break and get back to work tomorrow. 🙂

If I get anything done in the library tonight, I will let you know.

3/12/12

Put in an hour in the kitchen so far today washing dishes and straightening up. Then stopped for lunch.

I am thinking that I will spend the rest of the day’s time in the Studio trying to finish that room. Getting a room totally finished would be cool. Of course, I am not counting the closet. That is for another day.

Let’s see what happens.

UPDATE ONE: Well, I’m calling it first pass done. It is now on the same level as the areas downstairs that I would let company see. 🙂

Yeah, there are stacks here and there around the edges that might merit further attention at a later date. And a few trips were made to the Junk Room for later sorting (Sorry, Liz…). BUT, I think I can leave the door open…though if the cats make me change my mind on that, it will be for a different reason than the untidiness.

Here are the pictures:

The “Before” that there was still to do when I started

And then, the “After” — I may actually be able to do some crafting in there now.

That feels like a good day’s work. And I have earned an evening of leisure. Yay!

DAILY WRAP UP: 1 hour Kitchen + 3 hours Studio = 4 hours today.

PS: Liz has a great entry on her blog today. I wish she wasn’t in Canada. I’d hire her!

Simply Irresistible…

And delicious!

Newell took me to lunch out at the Salt Lick in Driftwood, Texas today. It is one of my very favorite restaurants, but since he is a vegetarian, we don’t go there often. Their brisket is to die for…just look at that cook pit!

I had the brisket and potato salad — I’m a meat and potatoes girl at heart — and my wonderful husband got stuck with potato salad and cold slaw because even the beans were cooked with pork. That is true love when someone has such limited choices and still takes you somewhere because you like to go.

Last of my Brisket…                                             …and at least Newell got Blackberry Cobbler.

It was a lovely ride in the country too…though we were riding on fumes when we found a gas station. The rain had stopped today, and it was warm and slightly breezy. A perfect afternoon. Even if we had forgotten to change the clocks last night.

Came home and did laundry and consulted my next door neighbor on how I should plant things in the yard this year. Actually going to try and landscape a bit.

Then this evening was my favorite night of television: Once Upon a Time, The Walking Dead, and GCB. I actually did some work in my Office while I watched — sorting old photos, putting my saved rejection letters in order, going through stacks of paper. I think I feel safe in counting an hour of productive time today. That makes this week’s accomplishments look a little less barren. 😉

DAILY WRAP UP: 30 Minutes Front Yard + 1 hour Office = 1 1/2 hours on Sunday! 🙂

3/10/12

Barely time to get a post in today before it is over, but I was up in Georgetown visiting my parents most of the day. Mother is doing some illustrations for me for a coloring book I am putting together, and she was showing me her sketches today. It is coming along splendidly.

Then Papa and I were discussing Flickr photos. It is fun to share that passion with him. We will have to go on another photo expedition soon.

All in all, it was a nice relaxing day then I came home and had a Farscape mini-marathon with Newell. Definitely priming the pump to be productive come Monday.

Tomorrow won’t be a total waste, though, because I absolutely must wash clothes and dishes. Otherwise Newell will have nothing to wear to work next week!

I picked up some books on needle felting today, as it is something I’ve been wanting to try. If anyone has any tips or favorite YouTube tutorials, let me know!

Here are a couple of photos I shot up in Georgetown today. (I hate not to give you ANY on the weekend. 😉 )

Mom made an awesome lunch.

Just goofing with my camera and settings. I liked how these came out.

See you tomorrow. I think I may drop in on EQ2.

3/9/12

Gloomy day, gloomy mood. Have gotten nothing done so far today, and not likely to get anything done tonight as I am under a deadline to finish proofreading something. I am not cut out for that. Too easy to find flaws. Ick.

I started reading Timeless by Gail Carriger this morning. Another delightful installment of The Parasol Protectorate. She has such a sharp wit and stunning fashion sense. 🙂  If you haven’t read this series, let yourself enjoy the treat. It is easiest in this case to go in order, I think. In which case, I suggest starting with Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate). The full order is Soulless, Changeless, Blameless, Heartless, and Timeless. There will be a Young Adult companion series called Finishing School coming next year, and Amazon hints at a new Adult series to follow called The Parasol Protectorate Abroad. Gail is such a clever minx and a lovely lady! I look forward to the new books in eager anticipation…

But I really have to do that proofreading now…so I will be back…but probably not tonight.

(BTW…is anyone disappointed if I sometimes talk about things other than cleaning? Should I get back into doing nothing but, even if it means some days with little if anything to post…?)

3/8/12

Had to take Luther to the vet this morning between 7-9 for his 6 month check-up. THAT was an adventure. Newell did get up to help me catch him, but then decided to take advantage of the situation and grab a little more sleep. 😛 That didn’t help. He is not feeling well and will be home all day. Probably sleeping.

Today is a sad day for Austin…the town “mascot” Leslie Cochran has died. Though I never met Leslie personally, I remember stories of him for most of my life. He will be missed.

It’s hard for me to get motivated on days Newell stays home. For one thing, I have access to the car… I wonder if  I should take advantage of that…?

I’m supposed to work in the Studio today. Let’s see what happens. 🙂

UPDATE ONE: And…not a thing got done. Well, I finished my book on the Kindle. And I played with my camera. Took a little nap. If I don’t get my act together, I will have to change the name of my blog…

Also went to get Luther from the vet after his checkup, and they are concerned he might have a form of highly malignant cancer that is  often seen in white cats. Great. So I have to keep an eye on a place on his nose and put sun screen on his nose and ears if he goes outside. This is our fraidy cat. That should be interesting… I do hope it turns out to be nothing, because he is also my gentle giant, and I am very fond of this foundling.
