Slow start today. Got distracted while eating lunch by the story of this plane crash on the History Channel. How cool that it was actually history and not pawn stars this morning! (Don’t get me wrong. I like Pawn Stars, but I think the claim to “history” is a bit tenuous at best.)

Anyway — enough playing for now. Mustn’t let my phone distract me any further. Time to get to work. Heading into the Office. There’s always stuff to do in there.

UPDATE ONE: I tried…I really did. I sorted a few things into their places…I separated out a few more in the Junk Room, and I did a load of laundry…but my cleaning mojo is GONE! Really need some motivation to get it back. Anyone have any ideas?

The best intentions….

Okay, so I promised to get work done today, but Newell decided we could go get my anniversary present early this morning, and I had to go with him. I got a brand-new Galaxy SII phone. The important things, to me, are the 8 megapixal camera and the Kindle app that mean I don’t necessarily have to carry everything around with me everyday.

I added a 32G microSD card, and now, if I can figure out how to direct stuff to download there, I should be set for quite a while.

I did start a load of laundry as soon as I got home. So, there is that…

Scrub Your Floors, Do Your Chores…

Sometimes I need a swift motivational kick! 😉

Found out today that the Garage Sale will be the last weekend in April, so at least I have a concrete goal to work toward as far as sorting stuff for it.

It’s been another long, lazy weekend, and I think I am ready to accept the challenge of moving forward and getting things done again. I foresee tomorrow being a day when my washer and dryer are seldom empty. And I want to tackle that shower floor again. I WISH I could figure out what would get the dirt out of that textured vinyl…but I have a toothbrush now dedicated to the task, and if I have to, I’ll scrub it on my hands and knees with Comet…

I’m actually rather looking forward to cleaning tomorrow at this point. Let’s hope the mood survives the night…

Went up to Georgetown to have a pattern fitting, and it appears the pattern is even more outlandishly complex than we thought. So we have to add inches here and there and cut it out again…good thing there is no rush.

Afterwards, I had lunch with Mom and Dad and watched Surrogates. It really is a fascinating movie which raises some interesting questions about technology.

Such a gorgeous day outside, I may have to go play with my plants. If I can wake up! Maybe a wee nap first.

If it wasn’t so far along in the year, I might seriously consider having to change the name of this blog. 😛

It isn’t that I have completely stopped cleaning, but I have definitely slowed way down. I had no reason to take today off, but I did. And I enjoyed it.

We went to the Oasis again for lunch today, and this time, I had my good camera. Here are some of the fabulous sculptures gracing the grounds:

I’ve given these all my own names. I don’t know what the real titles are, and I searched their website and couldn’t find the credits for the sculptor(s). All I know if that I love these bronze people…*

*Bear in mind, photographers…I use a Point and Shoot camera, and I am not very good at adjusting settings. I know the exposure is a bit off on some of these. (And I may go in and replace them later so that the orientation is right in the full size versions…)

Today is a gorgeous day. A little windy, but looks like no chance of rain. A good day to get busy. We will probably be having a neighborhood garage sale in a couple of weeks, so I need to start sorting with that in mind. Getting rid of things is always easier if you get money for the effort. 😉

I know I don’t have any big ticket items, but I certainly have a lot of little stuff to get rid of one way or another!

Went to bed without worrying about supper last night, so I am a bit hungry…should take care of that before the sorting starts.

UPDATE ONE: Had Newell drop me off at the Kerbey Lane on the corner so I could get something to eat then I walked over and bought some cat food on the way home. Made for a nice walk. If the wind hadn’t been blowing the flowers around so much it was hard to get their pictures, it would have been perfect. Just a few pages from the end of my book, and then it is off to sort in the Junk Room. Honest!

UPDATE TWO: Sitting on the floor to sort boxes just doesn’t work for long any more. Getting old. 😛 But I did make some difference. Emptied a couple of boxes completely and tossed them into recycling. Found some Garage Sale stuff. Some more eBayish stuff too. We’ll see. Can you tell the difference in the before and after?

Every tiny bit helps….

But as an apology for getting so little done, here is a flower for you from my walk home today:

Probably won’t get much else done today. Just discovered a fascinating site I need to explore for my other (much neglected lately) job.

I needed to read a book for evaluation today, so I went along with Newell to the parking garage. For some reason, I find it very relaxing there. Finished the last of the first five Amber books, read the book I was supposed to evaluate, and then went back to reading Gail Carriger’s Timeless. I can get a lot done when there are no interruptions. 😉

We were playing a new game with some of his co-workers while we had lunch at Waterloo Icehouse — always great for a hamburger. Anyway, the game is a variant on Pictionary, sort of, called “Draw Something”. It was rather fun. Of course, I can’t play it on my phone…

So, unproductive day? Depends on how you look at it. I felt good about getting a couple of reading commitments out of the way. 🙂

Newell told me this morning that he had shared a link to my blog to show off the cats, and the recipient started reading other pages and told him that I was obviously crazy about him. I hope I don’t overdo it…but yeah, that’s true, so I’m not surprised it comes through…I promise I am not doing it on purpose. 😉

I got another lovely surprise this morning when I opened my email inbox and found that two people had shared the link to my short story post the other day.

Looks like something was chewing on my Basil plant. I need to check it for bugs. At least all the plants came through last night’s storm with no major damage.

I decided last night that it is time to take a break from the concentrating on only three rooms again for a week or so and let the dice decide about it because there are a few others that could use a touch up. So, let’s see what I get:

An hour and fifteen minutes in the pantry. Oh joy… But it must be done.

UPDATE ONE: I admit it. I didn’t do that long in the Pantry. I did wash up the rest of the dishes, mop the Dining Room floor, move things out of the Front Hall into the Library, cleaned the downstairs litter boxes and started a load of laundry. So, I did SOME work.

Today is another slightly unmotivated day. I’ll admit that. I will try to get something else done today, and if I do, I’ll share, I promise. 🙂

Oooohhh…just saw a commercial for a program on the History Channel entitled “Titanic at 100: Mystery Solved”. I might have to break down and order that DvD for my collection. The Titanic has fascinated me since the first time I saw “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” as a little girl. Especially Molly’s life (though no one called her Molly…she was Maggie to her friends.) I visited the Molly Brown House on a trip to Denver one vacation. I loved it. I still have a secret desire to create and perform a one-woman show of her fascinating life some day…which I guess I should get onto one of these days…

Anyway, I have so far caught up on most of the dishes that stacked up on my lazy week last week. So that was about a half hour in the kitchen so far this morning.

Now let’s see what the die says we do the rest of the day…

The Library. I certainly have 2 1/2 hours more to do in there. Can I stand it that long? We’ll see.

First, I wanted to share something from this morning:

Newell called me to look at Luther teaching Firefly how to be a statue…

She was easily distracted…                          …so he gave up.

UPDATE ONE: As I expected, I couldn’t last the whole 2 1/2 hours in the Library. I have to be REALLY motivated — for instance, see the end in sight — before I can spend that long in one room. But I did get several boxes emptied and broken down for recycling. I re-distributed some things that belonged in other rooms. Emptied the wheeled cart that has been sitting in the Front Hall and put it away. And I got this put up so I could clean up some of the overstocked bookcases:

Every little bit helps. Of course, I still have this to go:

I’ll get it done eventually. If I go too fast, it will just wind up being tossed somewhere else, not sorted and put away. That won’t help. It just postpones the inevitable.

Taking a break for a few minutes, and then I will see what to do for that last hour. If I get anything more done today, I’ll let you know. 😉

UPDATE TWO: Got a load of laundry finished, hung and put away, so that is something. And I am about to take the Red Poppy and Forget Me Not seeds that I have and plant a few in pots to see if I can get them to come up. Eventually, I would like to grow them in beds around the pecan trees, but that may be a while…

DAILY WRAP UP: Calling it 30 minutes in the Kitchen this morning + 1 1/2 hours in the Library + 15 minutes in the Front Yard and + 30 minutes in the Pantry for the Laundry. (Yeah, that’s a stretch, but I didn’t want to be TOO short today.) = 2 hours and 45 minutes. Better than nothing!

And My Imagination Will Make that Moment Live…

So, I went out to garden, but it looks like rain, so my neighbor suggested we wait until after the storms they are predicting so that the ground will be easier to till and the plants will not be battered first thing in the ground. Can’t argue with that logic.

I did re-pot my peppers in a bigger pot, and we put liquid seaweed on a lot of the plants — all the ones I hadn’t added Flower Power to.

My across-the-street neighbor who was going to look at my truck got called into work — plus the battery was dead — so it is on the charger now, and he will look at it later.

Since that effectively shot all the plans I had for “working” today, I have been playing a game. A very special game, because I won it in a writing contest.

You see, the other day, someone posted a challenge on Reddit — I believe I mentioned this — and you had to write a post-Apocalyptic tale in 300 or so words. There were a couple of other shorter entries, but mine won. Though I might expand it later, I wanted to share the original with you guys. Here is what I submitted:

She crouched behind a fallen wall, peering cautiously around the edge to gauge the number of raiders collected around the campfire. It was dusk, so at least she had shadows to hide in. She eased open the rusty handgun to see how much ammo she had left. Four shots. And at least seven of them. Not odds she was particularly cheered by.

But she was hungry. And the scent of the rodent roasting on the spit over the campfire was enough to make her do unhinged things…like attack the group.

Shifting position silently, she almost gasped aloud as her knee contacted painfully with a sharp rock. Hold on a minute…maybe she didn’t have to be as stupid as she had originally thought.

She had passed a large carnivore a few meters back. No doubt, it had also been drawn by the scent of the roasting meat…but the fire would keep it at bay. If she could get one or more of the raiders to head in that direction, however, she might have an unwitting ally in this whole affair. She felt around her for the largest stone that would fit easily into her hand.

Silently winging a prayer to any deity willing to listen, she lobbed the stone in the direction of the predator skulking in the shadows. It landed with a satisfying clatter.

Heads swiveled around the fire. “What th’ Hells was that?” growled one of the raiders.

“Go and see,” ordered the biggest of the brutes. He was probably the leader. No way he would go himself into potential danger…

“Why me?” whined the first speaker.

“Because I told you to. Take Jak.”

Jak must be the one in the leather vest. He looked startled by the command.  “Boss?”

 “Both of you. Now.”

The two raiders scooped up a burning brand from the edge of the fire, and she ducked in tighter behind the wall.

The scouting party cautiously stepped out into the night. “There’s nothing here,” called back Jak — just before an inhuman scream split the night.

There were more cries, and some wild shots before the human screams took over for the other.

The leader bounded to his feet. “Ned? Jak?”

There was no answer. “Let’s go,” he snarled to the rest of his party, drawing a hogleg pistol from his belt.

The remaining raiders, over-confident in their position, if you asked her…tore off in the direction of the screaming.

Quick as a firefly, she darted into the camp and grabbed the end of the spit. For good measure, she swept up a pack that lay beside the fire.

No more than twenty seconds, and she was running off into the night, away from the sounds of the fight. Life wasn’t easy in the Wasteland.

I really do quite like that.

Anyway, I won copies of Fallout and Fallout 2. These are games I have long been interested in playing. Of course, even the game is chiding me for wasting time on the computer:

But it is a lot of fun — and it is Sunday, so I feel no qualms about it. 🙂

Tomorrow, it will be back to work for sure — unless we have to go out of town on a family matter.
