Today was a take your husband to work day…

Means not much got done but I did go do some shopping that needed to be done.

Came home to take advantage of our newly worked on computers and play some co-op Orcs Must Die 2. 🙂

Also made some cucumber sandwiches for dinner. Such a lovely light meal. Wheat bread, cucumber, and onion and chive cream cheese. Yum! Newell likes a slice of cheese on his. And I put a slice or two of the fake Morning Star Farms bacon. Fairly light on calories too.

Think that’s about all for me today. Hopefully will get more done tomorrow.

Come With Me and You’ll Be In a World of Pure Imagination…

I’ll get to today’s song in a minute. 🙂

Yesterday, I was totally wiped out by the time I got home from Georgetown, and didn’t have the energy to post, but the conspiracy was a success! The family and my parents’ next door neighbors managed to pull off our surprise party for my mother’s 75th birthday. It’s been in the works for a month at least, and an astounding number of emails and messages were passed back and forth without her catching on. (Or at least she said she was surprised, and that is probably the best we can hope for.)

Under the guise that we were having a tea party for the Mystery Readers (who usually take August off, but we concocted a reason for the exception), we got the ladies to Catherine’s house. Then, after about 30 minutes of socializing, the rest of the family showed up singing “Happy Birthday.” Mom looked surprised at least.

Here are a few shots from the party:

Mother (right) & friends                     Menfolk, and Brianna

Our hostess, Catherine

My sisters — Julie, Donna, and Lauren — and Papa.

Grandkids — Christa           Keith                                    Brianna

Byron                                      Jamison

And now we get to the reason I picked this song for today. Catherine and Larry have the most amazing backyard, full of wonderful statuary creatures and surprises around all the corners. Here are some of my favorite shots:

And, of course, the hummingbirds:

Not to be outdone, Jamison commandeered my camera, and took some pictures of her own. Some of these turned out quite well:

Others, were kind of typical 5 year old…

But I think she should get her own camera soon!

That’s enough for now. Everyone had a great time, but I am still recuperating today. 😉

And if anyone is keeping track, I decided not to try and force my story to a conclusion for Monday’s deadline. I may finish it later, but I have a thousand other projects to do first!

Long day…

Andrew came back and worked on the computers. Mine is up and running great. Newell’s is in flux, and it got too late to finish. Which may lead to a very disappointing weekend. He’s already labeled this one of his top five worst vacation days ever because they mainly just got to back up his stuff preparatory to re-installing Windows. Not a happy camper.

I managed to break the toilet today…as I hit the handle, the flapper lever broke. I went and bought a new one and this time it is replaced with metal instead of plastic, so maybe it will be sturdier.

I started a story for an anthology call this morning. Deadline is Monday. Not sure if I like it enough to finish it at the moment, but I’ll go back to it now and see what happens. Problem is the 4000 word minimum. Most of my short stories are about 2k or less. But I’ve got almost 1k words so far and haven’t started into the meat of the story, so maybe I can stretch it that far. We’ll see.

Going to try to get back into the habit of getting my blog up early in the day. 🙂

I am going to concentrate on getting caught up with the submissions today, and maybe get a bit of writing done now that I have my computer back in action. Not that it is the one that I work on, but with it available for keeping the message window open and such it means that I can lower the distractions on the work screen. 😉

After that, I have dishes to wash, laundry to do…do you ever get to the point where everything is in order? Ugh!

Much to do…much to do. I’ll check back later.

UPDATE: Well, I did get the submissions queue emptied, and some dishes washed, but that was about it for productivity. Still, better than many days have been lately. I am putting this one in the win column. 😉

I am once more writing this on my beautiful George (as my gaming computers are always called…) after a day of “doctoring”. And it turned out that the problems that we had feared were plaguing it were not the problem at all. The monitor had gone out. Replaced that, cleaned off some nasty spyware, and it is clicking along lickety split again. I am exceedingly relieved.

On the other hand, I boo-booed myself by almost dropping the box when I was trying to get it out of the truck:

Ouch… (That’s the inside of my arm just above my elbow, btw.)

I did get the desk straightened up before Andrew got here, as I had promised to do:

That’s the dead monitor.

And here is the new one, sharing the spotlight with his buddy the tablet:

I am a happy camper this week! Now, I plan on playing a game for a few minutes…

It is so easy to fall out of the habit of daily posts. And so difficult to get back into it. 😛

I blame not having my gaming computer (which I usually post from) working at the moment. But hopefully tomorrow that will change as we have my favorite computer tech coming by to look at it.

Yesterday I did some grocery shopping and some laundry, but that was about it.

Watched The Closer series finale, which was very nicely done, and the Major Crimes premiere, which the jury is still out on. Tonight was the Rizzoli & Isles summer finale, and it was a great episode. Just wish I could remember the title of the book that had the same premise that I read as a kid…

Newell linked me this story earlier. It seems outrageous to me that such a thing can happen, but that doesn’t mean it’s surprising.

Today I goofed off, but tomorrow I have to clear space in the computer room before Andrew gets here to work on my computer, so I think I’ll turn in. G’night.

Hello, Yeah, It’s Been A While…

I have plenty of excuses, but no real reasons. Newell had a really bad week, which meant he was either home — and I can never get much done when he is — or needed me to go with him to make sure he didn’t relapse or something.

I’ve mainly just played with my tablet all week. Worlds of fun. Can do so many things with it. Love it!

Last night Google Play store was having a sale on music, so I got several albums — Bat Out Of Hell; Goodbye Yellow Brick Road; The Dark Side Of The Moon (which my friend Glenda once told me is essential in any new medium…it was one of the first CDs I ever bought too…); and a huge Byrds collection.

I also got Jordan Reyne’s Children of a Factory Nation, and highly recommend it. I first heard of this album when I wrote a short story for a contest she was having before it came out. My writing partner, Jim, took Honorable Mention in the same contest, and let me hear the album with the stipulation that if I liked it, I should buy it. So I did.

Last night was the family birthday party for the August members, and I passed my Kindle to my mom. She was really excited to get it.

And now, I need to go put out the trash and see if I can see any shooting stars…

Newell needed me to go with him this morning, as he was still not feeling well and not sure how long he’d make it at work. I planned to go meet Julie from there, but she called just as I was getting ready to leave, and her daughter was sick too so we postponed it for later.

We came home at lunchtime, because that was the best he could manage…and my tablet was on the porch waiting for me! Hooray! It is so pretty. Looks a lot like Newell’s phone but slightly bigger. It even came preloaded with some of my favorite classic books (Treasure Island and Wuthering Heights to start) and Transformers: Dark of the Moon among other things.

I quickly got my Kindle, Nook, IMDB, Netflix, and Audible apps loaded in…but I’ve been waiting for it to charge up most of the day. 😛

I hope to get to play with it more tomorrow.

And maybe get some work done if Newell is up to going in…

8/7/12

Today my extra time waster was going to pick up the replacement lens for my glasses. It took them half an hour to get it cut and set into the frames. Put a hole in the middle of my day, though I did write a couple of short poems while I was waiting.

Newell was sick today, and I never get a whole lot done on those days, but I did manage to do a little straightening in the Study. Not as much as I wanted, but at least a little.

I also went to the post office to mail back the latest contract to Mocha Memoirs, and watered Kathleen’s plants again.

Tomorrow I have a lunch date with my new friend Julie. Really looking forward to that.

Oh, and my Google Nexus 7 Tablet (16 GB) will be here sometime tomorrow. Can’t wait! This is a belated birthday present from my sweet husband. It will be fun to play with. 🙂

8/6/12

Planned on working on the study today, but wound up getting the belts fixed on my truck instead. Since it was squealing every time it took off from a stop of any kind, I think it was worth it. This was pretty much all I did today of any value whatsoever. 🙂

I did hear from someone that they bought several of my books today, which made me very happy.
