Another gap with no posts. Sorry about that. I seem to have pinched a muscle in my back right about my left shoulder blade, and it has made doing much of anything painful. Since I am left handed, it really is impinging on my work. All varieties of it.

I haven’t punched the coloring books yet, because I am a bit paranoid about messing them up. If I can get my shoulder to behave, I’ll try tomorrow.

I did do something cool on Friday. My mother gave me a recipe that I think turned out pretty well. It’s simple enough that anyone can do it:

1 Cake mix — any flavor

1 12 oz soda — any flavor

Mix them together and pour in a 9X13 cake pan.

Bake at 350 degrees until the center of the cake springs back to the touch — about 30 mins.

That’s it. I frosted mine, but I am not sure that was a great idea. Next time I will try it without the icing.

I used Mountain Dew and a Lemon Supreme cake mix. My mother used Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper and chocolate cake. If you try it, let me know how it turned out!

That’s enough typing for now. Going back to solitaire that I can play with my right hand…

So, the saga of the coloring book continues. I found the combs today. 100 for just at $14, which makes them reasonable. So now I am all set for binding. Just waiting for the printing to be done. Supposed to be ready tomorrow by noon.

Went in with Newell today and ran some errands then came home after lunch. I got the curtain rods to hang the bedroom curtains, so that may make nap time easier. 🙂

Except for continuing phone weirdness — it seems to randomly dial my contacts…luckily only family so far… — not much else happened today.

But at least progress it being made on life. 🙂

Filled in the low spot where there was a marsh near the front door with three bags of top soil. The guy at Home Depot told me they were out of the really cheap dirt I was after, and that I COULD go up to the next cheapest, but he would recommend going to another Home Depot or Lowes and getting the stuff I was looking for. That’s why Home Depot is one of my favorite stores, and I told him as much — as well as mentioning it to the lady at Lowes.

Now, our marsh is gone, and –although the wasps aren’t too happy about it — hopefully that will cut the mosquito population a great deal. Speaking of mosquitoes…I have a story about them up here. It is a free read, so go and check it out. 🙂

Found my comb binder this evening. Now I just need to find some of the right size combs. Still have to be cheaper than the $2.50 + each to have Office Depot do it.

Aside from some dishes and dinner, most of my afternoon was spent editing a story I promised to do for Jim, and then finishing Orcs Must Die 2 when Newell got home.

Cleaning is all relative, right? 😉

9/4/12

So, I hear there may be issues with some of the links on the scavenger hunt page. I’ll work on them tomorrow. Still, it is worth checking out. 🙂

Today I washed clothes, and dishes — I even washed my hair. 😉 But mostly I worked on getting the poem added to the coloring book pages and getting it set up to print at Office Depot. Our local store has a great printing department. They are always super helpful every time I go in. Now I have to get back to cleaning the library, because I am SURE I have a comb binding system in there somewhere, and I can save over $2.50 a copy if I can find it. It will keep the price down to manageable to make a nice profit on each sale…I think. We’ll see.

Made cheesy rice for dinner. One of my favorites. It’s Gulf Pacific brand Cheesy Rice, and it is the best! And so simple to make. Can’t find a link to it…but all it takes is the package, butter, and water.

Feel like I at least got a little work done in all fields today. That was nice. 🙂

Tomorrow edits. I promised!

We're Having a Scavenger Hunt!

Zumaya is having a month long scavenger hunt. It’s easy and fun to play, so put on your thinking caps and limber up your typing fingers. 😉

There are prizes to be won, and winning them is easy. At the bottom of this post is a list of Zumaya authors. On each of their websites you’ll find the answer to a question. Collect the answers to those questions, then go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/M7C7DFG and fill in the answers. Now, a contest wouldn’t be any fun if it was too easy, so we’ve added some book and author-related trivia questions just to challenge you.

There will also be daily and weekly trivia contests, so keep an eye on Twitter and the Zumaya page on Facebook, or visit our company blog Zumaya Tales at http://zumayatales.wordpress.com/.

We had so much fun last year with a smaller version of this contest in conjunction with a chat we decided to expand it, gather some terrific prizes and give lots of people a chance to win them by running the event through the month of September.

A number of our authors have donated those prizes, and they are all related somehow to their books. How they’re related, we aren’t going to tell, beyond maybe a hint or two. We don’t want to give away all our secrets.

Once again, the way the contest works is that a group of Zumaya authors are hosting a collection of links on their blogs. There will be a question about themselves or their books, and a link to where you can find the answer. Visit all the blogs, collect the answers to all the questions, then go here, and complete the contest form.

Take your time—the Zumaya Trivia Scavenger Hunt will run through the entire month of September. You can see photos of some of the great prizes we’re giving away at http://pinterest.com/ekburton/what-do-these-have-in-common/ and http://on.fb.me/RAZ0e9. Who knows—there might even be a few books and ebooks tossed into the mix before we’re done. We’ll definitely be giving away at least one ereader, but we’re waiting for all the new models to come out before we pick those.

And remember, there will also be daily and weekly trivia contests, so keep an eye on Twitter and the Zumaya page on Facebook, or visit our company blog Zumaya Tales at http://zumayatales.wordpress.com/. If you haven’t liked the Zumaya page on Facebook, now would be a good time. We’ll also have a chat at Coffee Time Romance and more on 4 September to launch, and a couple of hangouts on Google+ over the next four weeks.

There is, of course, no purchase required, and your private information will remain between you and Zumaya. Unless we’re authorized to do otherwise, it will all be deleted when the contest ends. While we’d love it if you sampled our wares, our goal with this contest is to get to know as many people as we can, and to let them get to know us. So, welcome and have fun!

My question is: Who are two of the people mentioned in DAISY’S DIARY? The answer can be found here. If you right-click that link, you’ll be able to explore my site in a new page or tab then move on to the next participant for the next question.

Here are the links to the participants:

9/1/12

Back has been acting up a bit the last few days, so haven’t done a lot. I have my pictures for the coloring book now, and got them scanned in today. Now I just have to put the words on them. Here are a couple of examples:

Edgar was an elephant.

Jerry was a jellyfish.  (This is one of my favorites.)

Oscar was an owl. (I love the little mouse…)

Once I get the words added, it will just be a matter of getting them printed out and bound. I think it will be a lot of fun. 🙂

It’s a holiday weekend, but I am currently planning on buckling down again on Tuesday. Don’t give up on me yet!

More editing and submissions stuff today. No housework except cooking.

The toaster oven that Newell ordered came in, and when I was moving the old one, I found that some of the papers set on top were scorched almost to the point I am surprised they didn’t go up in flames! Already resolved not to set anything on top of the new one. Especially after throwing out partial boxes of sweetener and sugar that had caramelized from the heat…

Saw this “pinned” on Pinterest (first time I’d ever looked there…) and thought it was worth sharing. I may have to do this to organize my first aid supplies. We have so much junk around here. Including, probably, one of those huge tackle boxes that can be re-purposed for the cause. I have one for art supplies, one for craft stuff, one for my old theatrical make-up, one for office supplies…I think I can probably spare one for a better cause. I like how that blog lists what she considers essentials, though I might vary it some.

Tomorrow off to Georgetown to collect the coloring book pages. Now comes my part, and I hope it isn’t too difficult to get the words onto the sketches!

I’ll share a couple of pages when I get them scanned in.

That’s all for now.

Still not regular again, but today I did wash dishes and laundry, and I’ve made actual dinners (okay, last night was pizza…but it was really GOOD pizza) two nights in a row.

That’s more cleaning than I’ve done in one day for weeks.

I judged the final stories in a contest yesterday, and today has been spent in passing sage wisdom to a fledgling writer. I must admit, I liked those chores better.

Balance is never something I find easily. Must be why I always have so many bruises! 😉 I find I am either doing writerly things, or cleaning things. I rarely do both on the same day. Today I at least tried. That’s a step in the right direction. 🙂

Oh! And I don’t want to lose track of this recipe while I try to figure out if fake chicken will work as well as real, so I will leave this here for you guys. Doesn’t it sound interesting? Not sure about the coleslaw, but hey, you never know until you try something.

And another cool blog I got from a friend on Facebook. Doesn’t the mushroom soup recipe sound yummy? May have to try it. Just ordered some vegetable bases from Superior Touch to substitute for bouillon. Looking forward to experimenting with those.

I feel like I am stuck in quicksand and not going anywhere fast. 😛

I guess summer is always a hard time to get serious work done. Rather ingrained into us in childhood that the summer is a time to goof off. Maybe that is my problem. I haven’t gotten anything of substance done in weeks.

I have many good intentions, but my follow through is terrible. Come Monday, we will try again. That’s all one can do, isn’t it? “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”?

I had my first cup of coffee in years yesterday. Well, according to my new coffeepot (very similar to this one at least) I had 5 cups of coffee, but I don’t consider 4 ounces a cup, so I filled the mug up twice and finished the pot. That’s really good coffee there. I didn’t drink it black, which they say is optimal, but it is definitely strong stuff even with sweetener and creamer. And I played Orcs Must Die till 1:30 am….

I will get back to work soon. This just doing the maintenance stuff isn’t getting me anywhere.
