I am embarking on a grand adventure for the next five weeks, and it isn’t too late for you to join me!

Firepole Marketing is conducting a “Great Online Marketing Scavenger Hunt”. The clock has started, but there is no specific time-frame to complete the challenges, so come on and join if you feel inclined. I’ve already met some wonderful people in the course of the weekend, and look forward to learning and growing as we go.

I’ve even got a tumblr account now and will probably finally break that last taboo and start tweeting next week. I plan on reading How to Twitter: Getting Started with 30 Daily Do-ables (written by one of my fellow scavengers, Stacey Myers) first to find out how to get the most out of the experience. 🙂

Look for more posts than usual from me, as well as some guests (hopefully) as the next few weeks play out.

And if you decide to come and join us, feel free to drop my name when you sign up. 😉 My player handle is riesheridanrose (of course…)

Join us! It’ll be fun.

Got an “unofficial” acceptance last night, but I’m waiting for confirmation to give more details there.

Today I finished the story I was trying to complete last night and sent it off. Other than that, I emptied the Zumaya queues (that was cleaning!) and watched TV mostly. Still not well. Coughing bouts that get really nasty for example. Missed my niece’s birthday party, but we didn’t want to share our germs.

Getting ready to go crash again. Hopefully, will be well by the end of next week. I am tired of sick already!

I am cheating tonight. Here is an old poem…but hey, it’s a sonnet…

IMG_1222

Happy the man who finds wedded bliss
whose partner is more than merely maid.
Whose fills his days with music played
upon lute or lyre to win fair kiss.
For such a lucky one, the reward is this–
much more precious than gold or jade…
a happiness no thinking man would trade
that — were it gone — he’d sorely miss.

To sleep beside the one you love
a joy throughout the whole year long
To fit together — hand and glove
and fill one’s days with light and song
such peace instills…as gentle dove
finds safety in a nest built strong.

nite…

Today I feel a bit better. Sorry about yesterday, but I felt like absolute hell. I spent most of the day in bed, and drank nothing but orange juice.

Today, I managed soup and a quiche, so that is better. Tomorrow I may even get to the grocery store. Or at least Kerbey Lane.

I also revised a story and sent it off to the Intergalactic Medicine Show, and started a marketing scavenger hunt.

If anyone else wants to play drop me a comment and I’ll give you details. It isn’t actually what I would call a “scavenger hunt”, more of a challenge thing, but I think it will be fun.

My back is beginning to say “Go back to bed now.” But I am trying to ignore it for the moment. I’d like to finish another story tonight.

Let’s see if I can get a poem out tonight…

Robin

Robin Hood

Robin calls his men
to fight
the sheriff’s in the dark
of night
or sometimes in the bright
sunlight
Because he champions
what’s right!

What do you expect, I’m sick…

Tracking:

Today I cleaned — took garbage out, mopped up a spill…

Today I weighed — 180.6 (yesterday was 186.3 –being sick is good for some things…)

Today I wrote/revised — revised one short story, started revising another

Another rejection today. That’s how it goes. At the moment, I could care less, because I feel like utter c**p. I guess it isn’t just allergies. May be con crud, though I usually don’t have that problem. Whatever it is, I feel lousy, and was doing good to get one story back in play after its rejection.

Right now, all I want to do is go to bed.

Breathing may be overrated, but when you can’t do it…

Tracking:

Today I cleaned ― put my jewelry drawers back in order after the con.

Today I weighed ― 186.3 — but I did better today, I think

Today I wrote/revised ― flash piece to get it back out.

No poem tonight. I’m too sick. 😛

Still not back to full routine. Went with Newell today because he had a doctor’s appointment, and I am glad I did, because he got a tetanus combo shot and it made his arm hurt really bad.

We came home early and I got ready for Beer, Brass, and BS — our local Steampunk monthly meeting. Tonight was the first night with vendors, and it was cool. Plus, I got to see many of my friends in their fancy finery.

Sam  Thaxx  Other side of Corset

It was a lot of fun, but my allergies drove me home much sooner than I would have liked.

Next month, I may try to vend myself. We shall see…

I promised to get back to poems tonight. But you may just get a haiku…

Beads

Mardi Gras beads of many hues
sparkle in the light —
decadence personified.

(and yes, I know the first line has an extra syllable. :P)

Tracking:

Today I cleaned ― nothing

Today I weighed ― 185.2

Today I wrote/revised ― a haiku…

I had a good time at the convention, but I am awfully glad to be home and I’m ready to get back to my normal routine. I ate way too much, drank too many Dr. Peppers, and didn’t get as much sleep as I like.

Today I had one acceptance and one rejection. Does that mean they cancel each other out? My very short story “To Run Is to Fly” was accepted by Four Star Stories for their “Short Short” issue out at the end of the month.

The piece that was rejected is a flash piece that I already wanted to change something on anyway, so I am not too disappointed that I’ll have a chance to. 🙂

Came home and watched some Supernatural while getting some re-organizing done in the Studio. Then Newell and I went to Five Guys to eat, since one of our favorite restaurants had closed down when I went to order delivery from them.

When we got home, I watched last night’s Once Upon a Time, and yeah–they went where I thought they were headed, but it was a more bittersweet story than I expected. Hope everything works out in the end…

Very sleepy, but trying to at least make it to 10 pm…lol

No brain for poetry though, so I’ll add that back in tomorrow…

I am lucky to get anything up tonight, much less think of a song…

I did manage to get two submissions out today, so there is that. Sold a bit more today. Still not enough, but a bit more.

I got to moderate a panel on Self-Publishing VS Traditional Publishing that was very interesting.

But desperately tired tonight. So short and sweet is what you get.

Here’s a picture for you though. My new Steampunk threads from Generations of Art (hat by Otherwhen Oddities–run by my multi-talented friend Bev Hale) …for business purposes, of course:

And the lovely Patricia Ash — Associate Editor of Gearheart’s Steampunk Glamor Revue:

Patricia Ash and her minion Tim Tim

We had a good time. I submitted a poem to Gearheart’s this evening.

Tomorrow should be back to normal — including daily poem. I promise. 🙂

I know I missed yesterday, and I apologize, but I was wiped out! Not much better today, but I can’t skip the entire weekend.

Standing behind a dealer’s table all day doesn’t sound like hard work, but it is. Plus panels and so on, and it is exhausting. But I love it. 🙂

Registered yesterday for the Austin International Poetry Festival (and submitted poems to be considered for their anthology.) That was cool.

Today I submitted that story to Horror Without Victims that may or may not fit, but at least it is a submission.

One a day is pretty good in the midst of a con…though I missed Thursday completely.

I told you about my Daisy doll, didn’t I? I ordered her to help promote Don’t Go Drinking with Hobbits. Well, she and I are finally in the same place at the same time. Isn’t she lovely?

Daisy

See the beer mug?

And here is my jewelry all displayed:

Table 1

Table 2

Looks pretty good, but I can’t compete with the fancier jewelry. Still need to rethink some things.

Had a really cool panel on Language Creation this evening:

Language Panel

We didn’t out number the audience by much though.

Then I had a panel on Filk, and what it is, where I did a lot of mentioning of Don’t Go Drinking with Hobbits and On the Drift, the Bedlam Bard’s Firefly CD as two stellar examples of Filk. (For those of you not in the Science Fiction/Fantasy community, “filk” music is music that references genre literature/media in a new way. Another example is Weird Al Yankovic’s “Yoda”.)

I came back to the room after a quick bite to eat and started getting ready for bed, totally forgetting that I had another panel at 9 on “Pornography VS Erotica.” Glad I remembered in time, because it was a great panel discussing current trends, where they came from, all sorts of interesting ideas. 🙂 I even had a story idea in the middle of it…if I can only remember what it was…

Too tired for a poem tonight…sorry. But I should be able to get back to normal routine tomorrow as we are through at 4 and not heding back until Monday morning.

G’night, darlings…

Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope yours was great. Mine wasn’t spent with Newell, so that wasn’t good, but sometimes that’s how it goes.

I’ve set up my stuff for the Dealer’s Room. (I’ll post a picture or two tomorrow.)

Got a sort of rejection today — I missed something in their guidelines, so the submission wasn’t actually read. I’m not going to count that one unless I have 29 others. 😉

Haven’t made any submissions yet today, but I still might. Driving all day is hard work!

Think I will cut it short tonight.

Poem:

017

Silver and black
is Steampunk Jack–
he wears a nice top hat.

His sharpened grin
looks made of tin,
can you imagine that?!

Tracking

Today I cleaned — did go to grocery store.

Today I weighed — 181.9 (but that will change this weekend–and I can’t weigh till I get home.)

Today I wrote/revised — this blog post!
