All the Beta Reads Are In!

I will have a little more work to do on The Nearly Notorious Nun to integrate some really valid points but I am still on track for my personal time-table, and hope to have it submitted to Amazon by Monday. Cross your fingers! That will be plenty of time to get copies by FenCon.

So, that is all I can do on the series for the moment, but I wanted to share some photos I took at Bull Shoals Caverns last Friday. Doesn’t this look like it could be Kate’s caverns from Calico Kate and the River of Gold?

Not too bad for a cell phone camera with no flash…

The caves were so cool! And I could imagine Kate and her friends exploring with bits of candle.

There was also a Mountain Village with buildings from 1830 to 1890. Very useful research. 😉

This little house was built in 1874:

I would love to go back sometime when it is in season so we could go on the village tour. This time I had to settle for just looking at the outsides…

And we also picked up a new kitten…someone might get their description changed…

Sorry to have been silent…

…but there has been a lot going on in the background!

The Nearly Notorious Nun is out for one final read with some new beta-readers, and I got a good response from the first one. I am hoping that the others like it as well.

I also did the cover myself this time. I am extremely pleased with the way it came out. What do you think?

Notorious-Nun-Cover--Final

The Nun photo was the work of Raluca Caragea

The image of the cloister is from Wojciech Wojcik —   (I wish I had done it full justice…)

And, of course, the frame is the work of Brad Fraunfelter, and will be used on all the books to tie the series together.

These artists are amazing! Go and look at their sites!

The Incredibly Irritating Irishman is off to two readers so far looking for polishing tips, since it is in first draft at the moment.

Plus, the manuscript for Ghosts, Gears, and Grimoires has been submitted to the publisher with my story “Restless Spirit” — a Conn-Mann story in third person from Alistair’s PoV, which is a real departure!

So, the Chronicles aren’t sitting still. I promise. 🙂 Jo is as demanding as always.

And in November’s NaNoWriMo this year, I will be drafting The Atrocious Automaton Army, which will be a lot of fun.

What a Fabulous Convention It Was!

Catching up on everything after a fabulous weekend in Oklahoma City at SoonerCon. Learned a lot, had fun, made sales. 🙂

One of the things I learned from my new friend, Patricia Loofbourrow. She shares pictures of the people who bought her book, The Jacq of Spades, on her website.

So, here are the wonderful people who got copies of The Marvelous Mechanical Man last weekend. (I may have missed a couple. Some sales were made when I wasn’t at the table…)

Aren’t they a handsome lot? 😉

I also am working on a couple of future print commissions, so that there will be new artworks available. And can’t wait to get back to The Nearly Notorious Nun! I hope to have it finished by the end of the summer.

So Excited to Reveal This!

In February at ConDFW, I commissioned a piece from Michelle Parker Fitzpatrick. I just got the prints today, and they will be debuting at SoonerCon. Aren’t they spectacular?

More of Michelle’s work can be found on her website, or follow her on Tumblr here.

Also debuting will be Alistair’s Afternoon Delight tea from Teapunk Teas. And we will be holding drawings for some great prize bags that will hopefully make up for not being quite done anywhere near done with the second book yet…

If you are at SoonerCon next weekend, drop by the Artist Alley to see Liz Burton and I hawking the Chronicles. 🙂

If anyone has any suggestions for other artists to approach for commissions, leave a comment.

Getting Ready for SoonerCon

Didn’t get the second book finished by the end of May. Probably won’t before SoonerCon June 24–26, 2016, but I might. But I will be taking the first book to SoonerCon, and I will be bringing some surprises of the Steampunk variety. 🙂

I am going to be concentrating on that genre alone for this convention, because it is a long way to travel and I only have so much space. But I have plenty of Steampunk for you!

I will be bringing The Marvelous Mechanical Man; Avast Ye, Airships; Terra Mechanica; Terror by Gaslight; and the Pirates Vs. Dragons CDs.

And, as I say, there will be some special treats debuting at the convention as well. Come and see me in the Dealer’s Room!

If you are going to be there, and you know there is something of mine that you want that isn’t Steampunk, leave  me a comment, and I will see if I can squeeze it in for you. 😉

New Book Trailer for The Marvelous Mechanical Man

I had commissioned a book trailer for The Marvelous Mechanical Man that I really loved, but it had some information that was now outdated. I just got the link for the revised version. Isn’t it beautiful?

So proud of it, I also added it to the book page. 😉

Work is Progressing

I am getting things done on The Nearly Notorious Nun. Finally think I have a good Dime Novel to go with it. I have found all the pieces of the cover. The rewrite is about a quarter done. Probably won’t make the goal of finishing by the end of the month. 😦 But there is progress.

I’ve been reading a lot of marketing books, ordering some of Alistair’s tea to go with Jo’s, and setting up several things.

Plus editing the Steampunk horror stories for Ghosts, Gears, and Grimoires which will include “Restless Spirit,” a Conn-Mann story from Alistair’s PoV for a change.

This is fun, and hard, and terrifying. 🙂 But it’s working…so far.

It worked!

I said I had a S.M.A.R.T. goal of getting The Marvelous Mechanical Man available. And, as of last night, it is back up in the Kindle store! It is a totally revised version of the same story. If you bought the first edition, you don’t need to buy the second–unless you are a completest, like me;)–but it does have some corrections to the timeline that came to light with further understanding of Jo and her crew.

The paperback isn’t available yet, but I hope to get it back up as soon as possible.

The next goal is to have The Nearly Notorious Nun rewritten and ready by the end of May. That may be a bit harder, as there is far more to do, but it’s the plan.

It feels good to be moving ahead at last. Now, to keep going!

Mechanical Man Final COVER ONLY

I think I may go and have a cup of Jo’s tea. I just got a new shipment in. 😉

Better than Nothing

I’ve been neglecting this blog shamefully, I know. But today I am getting back to things a little. A very little.

It was better than nothing.

Today, I was really busy working on a project that needed to be finished ASAP. So, my cleaning was relegated to the DVR.

Some of the shows we record are for both of us, but others are just mine. Today, I tried to clear off all the ones that were mine.

This is what I started the day with:

20160406_090811[1]

The Castles were all reruns we have seen, so that was an easy clear. The Bates Motel stuff was only a recap of the series to date and a preview of the next episode, so those were quick. I had started Grimm on Friday, so I got rid of that fairly easily. Then, I watched Once Upon a Time.

I could have finished all the things that were mine — Damien, and Better Call Saul — but instead, I turned off the TV to concentrate on finishing the project. This was what was left when Newell got home:

20160406_180628[1]

We’re watching Limitless now, because it is one of our favorites. And tomorrow…is another full DVR day. 😉

At least I finished my writing project. 🙂
