This has been an interesting year. I’ve had pieces in numerous anthologies–prose, poetry, flash…a little of everything. I’ve published a few experimental pieces on Amazon–both as Rie and as Tysche. I’ve been in magazines online and in print. Dabbled in everything from noir to absurdism.
Still extremely short of my goal, but 70 rejections and 21 acceptances (one came in this morning.)
I’ve tried my hand at various editing positions that I hadn’t pursued before…some worked for me, some didn’t, but I learned from them all. Editing my first anthology has been quite a ride, but I think we will all be pleased with the results.
I performed my poetry on several occasions, and liked it. I hope to do more.
I had tables at several conventions and sold more books than I expected. This may become a more regular thing.
For the second year in a row I earned over $1000 before expenses. That is a drop in the bucket for a “real” job, but more than I had ever earned prior to last year.
I finally finished a complete draft of the second Conn-Mann Chronicles book — my first full-length sequel ever — and Jo and Alistair should be back for your reading pleasure next summer, if all goes according to plan.
I feel like I accomplished a lot this year, but I could have done more.
So…looking forward…what’s next?
As I said, I should have a novel out next year, as well as the anthology, and one — possibly two — collections of short stories. I want to add at least one poetry chapbook to that, but we will see. I didn’t write as much poetry this year, and I hope to step up my game again next year.
I have already stated I want to be more active on both blogs, and learn to more strategically market through social networks and media.
I plan on getting back into my photography more extensively too. I miss it, and it provides me with some exercise!
Going to set a goal of 100 rejections next year, and see if I can beat it. It’s come down from 300, to 200, to 100 — but at least I almost made that this year…
Will be looking for creative ways to boost sales. (Suggestions welcome. 😉 )
Need to continue learning Dragon NaturallySpeaking. If I get good at it, I should be able to increase output immensely.
Working on some interesting side projects with potential as well.
Yes, I feel 2015 could be a very good year…
